  • US Pharmacopeia (USP): Conductivity ≤ 1.3 µS/cm @ 25ºC, Total Organic Carbon (TOC) ≤ 500 ppb, Microbial ≤ 100 cfu/ml, no endotoxin requirement.
  • European Pharmacopeia (EP): Uses distillation, ion exchange, reverse osmosis, or other suitable methods.
  • Japanese Pharmacopeia (JP): Employs distillation, ion-exchange, ultrafiltration, or a combination of these methods.

Design Features

  • Materials of Construction: Typically Stainless Steel (316 or 316L) for tanks and pipework, with elastomeric components like Teflon, EPDM, Silicone, and Viton.
  • Tank Design: Fully drainable with a minimum slope of 1/8” per foot, hygienic components, and minimised dead legs (<= 2 pipe diameters).
  • Surface Quality: High mechanical polish/buff, clean joints with sanitary TriClamp and automatic orbital welding.
  • Interior Treatment: Passivated surfaces to protect against free iron.
  • Pumping: Mechanically sealed centrifugal or canned motor pumps for leak-tight operation.
  • Heat Exchange: Gasketed or welded plate heat exchangers for efficient heat transfer.
  • Control Valves: 2-way or 3-way globe control valves for precise temperature regulation.
  • Additional Features: Expansion tank for thermal fluid volume changes, strainers, non-return valves, temperature transmitters, and pressure gauges.
